What Time Cannot Take

Time will take pleasure tomorrowlike a song that fades with the wind

Time will take pain tomorrowlike rain that forgets where it’s been

Time will take people tomorrowlike footsteps lost in the sand

Time will take comfort tomorrowlike a fire that slips from your hands

Time may take moneyand it may take health

It may take the bodyand everything built

Time is a thief of the outside worldit takes what was never mine

But there are thingstime cannot touch

Love is inside mehate is inside me

Richness is inside memisery is inside me

They don’t arriveand they don’t leave

They wait

For me to hold themor to let them go

People were never the sourcethey were only mirrors

Showing me loveshowing me hate

But both were minelong before their names

I can carry warmthor I can carry fire

I can live in richnessor drown in misery

Not because time decides

But because I do

So let tomorrow takewhatever it wants

It can empty my hands

But it cannot touchwhat I choose to hold inside
